HIGH PRESSURE Die Casting (HPDC) – FAQ
Find answers to the most frequently asked questions about our high pressure die casting services, aluminium alloys,
tooling, production capabilities, quality standards and engineering support.
Q1. Which aluminium alloys does Lumel Alucast cast?
We cast high pressure die castings from EN AC-47000, EN-AC-47100, EN AC-46000, EN AC-46100, EN AC-44200 and EN AC-43400, as well as ADC12. Alloy selection is agreed with the customer at the design stage, based on the mechanical, thermal and corrosion requirements of the part.
Q2. What is the weight range of your die castings?
From 0.3 kg to 7 kg per casting depending on the design and cross section of the part. Parts outside this range are assessed individually against our machine park.
Q3. What is the clamping force range of your die casting machines?
Our machines operate with clamping forces from 400 t to 1050 t. Most of them operate in a fully automated casting cycle.
Q4. Which quality certifications does Lumel Alucast hold?
We hold IATF 16949:2016, ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 50001:2018 and a PED quality assurance system in accordance with Directive 2014/68/EU. The IATF certification qualifies us as a supplier to automotive Tier 1 and Tier 2 customers.
Q5. Does Lumel Alucast supply the automotive industry?
Yes. We are certified to IATF 16949 and supply automotive Tier 1 and Tier 2 customers, alongside industrial automation, energy sector, heating and cooling, pumps and lighting.
Q6. Which processes are delivered under one roof?
Tool and mould design and manufacture, high pressure die casting, CNC machining, surface treatment (deburring, shot blasting, tumbling, T5 heat treatment, washing and chromate coating), powder coating and assembly — all at our site in Zielona Góra, Poland. Electronics assembly (EMS, OEM/ODM) is available within the Lumel group.
Q7. Does Lumel Alucast build its own tools and moulds?
Yes. Our in-house tool shop produces approximately 40 tool sets per year, moulds up to weight 7T, using milling, turning, drilling, grinding and EDM. We design moulds (including flow simulation), trimming dies and CNC/CMM fixtures.
Q8. Which technologies ensure tightness and low porosity?
Vacuum casting reduces gas porosity inside the casting, squeeze pins compensate shrinkage defects, and jet cooling stabilises quality while extending mould life. Tightness is verified by automatic station with Atec leak testing.
Q9. Can Lumel Alucast produce pressure-tight or explosion-proof castings?
Yes. Depending on project requirements our castings meet tightness, corrosion resistance and explosion-proof requirements, supported by our PED quality assurance system.
Q10. How do I submit a request for quotation (RFQ)?
Send 2D drawings or 3D data with technical specification and the expected annual volume to RFQ@lumel.com.pl Our engineering team reviews feasibility, proposes a tool concept and returns a quotation.
Q11. Which branches does Lumel Alucast supply ?
Industrial automation, energy sector, heating and cooling, pumps, lighting and automotive.
